- Michael and Ellen settled on a farm at the junction of Priest's Creek and the Lièvre River, opposite Notre Dame de la Salette. All their children were born on the farm. In 1901 they were living in a 4 room house and farmed 100 acres on the east part of Lot 12 Range 4 in Portland West Township.
Information from Helen Binette-Desjardins on Wednesday, July 10, 1974 via Evelyn Burke:
-Michael had red hair
-the farm in la Salette was sold to a Hart family between 1905 and 1920
-the cost of Michael's burial was $14 - Moise Binette contributed $7 and his son Jim McClements paid the other $7
-he was buried with the unbaptized children and had a wooden cross which could not be found in the late 1970s.
-his daughter May (wife of Moise Binette) received word of her father's death only one week later; it was winter and the roads were closed; Moise was working in a shanty at the time.
In a publication of the 1881 census for Portland-Ouest is the entry for family #16:

-marriage witnesses were Joseph Goulet, who signed, and Marguerite Sorel, who indicated she could not sign. The spouses signed. According to the church entry, the bride was a minor; however, from Ellen's date of birth, she would have been age 31 years.
